Custom Body Work Trunk Lip Fabrication Ideas
Hey, it’s Tony. Thanks for watching the video. In this video, I ask about trunk lip fabrication ideas.
I’ve got a question for you. I’m about to paint the Miata this weekend. I’m in the process of molding my lip spoiler on the trunk and I want to know what you want to see.
I have two options for you.
The first option is, to do a finger mold. You will see a little lip down the hole line. It will be a nice, even lip done with my finger, getting that nice edge. Then, we’ll really flatten it out.
The other option is to mold the back in. The trunk will basically blend-in to the high point of the spoiler.
This is going to take me longer to do because I have to fill that area with the light, as you see on the video. Then, feather it all with the trunk and block it to make it all look like one piece.

I already decided on the back part. I think the back looks pretty cool. I might build it up a little and do a finger mold because it’s going to look funny if I do something else. So, I mold it and have a little u-shape on it.
So, let me know. Do I completely feather it into the trunk or do finger mold? The highest vote wins and that’s what I’m going to do.

Finger roll would be more clean as for feathering the spoiler in I think the build up would look to obvious and would show that it does not roll with the lines of the car!

I would do the finger mold and finish it so it looks like part of the trunk lid..HoweverI would like to see the finish job if you fill it in. JIM
I like to see a combination of both a light feather into a small lip for a more natural looking decklid
