It’s probably a spray gun issue, most likely. Either you’re spraying at a too high or too low of a pressure, or something’s just wrong with your spray gun. Maybe it’s filthy, it’s dirty, and you’re not getting proper atomization from your cap

I’m not sure if you used it before, but that’s mostly the issue. It’s basically getting too much air atomization and in the middle, not enough. So it’s not spreading your paint to come out like an open fan pattern. You’re getting top-heavy on the bottom of your fan pattern. Meaning that either the holes on your spray gun cap clogged up.

If the problem occurred gradually like over a few paint jobs, I would just give the gun a thorough cleaning. Take the whole thing apart and I have videos on my channel to show you how to properly take a gun apart because you’re not supposed to take every piece apart, mostly your needle.

When you’re cleaning a gun, basically you want to take out your knob at the back, you squeeze the trigger, pull out your needle that you’re going to clean. Then take off your front air cap, make sure that’s really clean. Your problems probably come from the little holes on the front (air cap) and on the sides being clogged up that’s going to affect your spray pattern.

And also, you’re going to want to take off this piece. ⬇️⬇️⬇️

Clean it out really well. You can use lacquer thinner or reduce. You can use a basecoat reducer, it’s good or you could use a cheap lacquer thinner. I buy lacquer thinner by the five-gallon barrel, cheap like cleaning lacquer thinner.

So clean it, put it back together, and test out most likely. Make sure you clean your needle as well.
