Hey, it’s Tony from LearnAutoBodyAndPaint with another question from Darrell.
“Hi Tony, I have a question for you. I am looking at restoring headlights and applying a UV resistant clear coating on them after they are restored for UV protection.
I would like to be mobile so I want a setup that’s small and easy to carry around and I’m thinking about getting a Porter Cable C2002-WK compressor and I would like to pair it with a good mini spray gun that would not have a too wide of a spray pattern, have minimal overspray and one that would give me that shiny glass-like finish on the headlights. Now this compressor is 6-gallon with 150 PSI, 2.6 cfm @ 90 PSI and 3.5 cfm @ 40 psi. What would you recommend?”
The pancake little compressor will be fine since you are painting small area and spraying 25 to 26 psi will be enough volume so you need not worry.
As far as a spray gun, I would highly recommend the Atom Mini X16 Spray Gun on Zoolaa. It’s a great spray gun where you can adjust the fan pattern from eight inches to an inch.
If you narrow your spray pattern then you’ll have to lower down your pressure. As you lower and make your fan narrower, it will shoot out at a higher pressure. I think it’s about right if you’re spraying at a four to five-inch fan pattern. You just need to make sure you have 25 to 26 psi which is good for clear coat.
