DIY Auto Body & Paint Shop Update & LIVE Q&A

Hey, it’s Tony with another live stream and welcome to the show today! This week’s title is DIY Auto Body & Paint Shop Update & LIVE Q&A.

There’s a lot of people on tonight so let’s go ahead with the Q&A.

Question: Can you paint a car without having a garage? [5:53]

Absolutely. I covered that in my 24-hour El Cheapo Paint Job Project in the LearnAutoBodyAndPaint VIP Program. It’s a single-stage enamel paint job that I did in a tent outdoors. You just have to make sure that it’s not a windy day to avoid dusts and bugs fly in it.

Apart from that, I’ve done many paint jobs outdoors for friends’ cars back in the day. It would be best, though to have it under some sort of cover such as a tent or any kind of shelter.

Question: How do I spray a chrome bumper? [6:57]

If you have a chrome bumper, I would scuff it with a DA Sander and 80-grit and then, with 150-grit. After which, you need to put on a 2k primer filler.

You’ll then have a nice foundation to block it out with 400-grit and you’re ready for sealer or base coat clear coat on top of that.

Question: How do I deal with rust spots? [8:04]

You need to grind it down and treat it with 50/50 ratio of vinegar and water. You can also cut it out and patch a new piece of metal or you can spot weld metal right over it.

I also cover that in the VIP Course so you might want to check the program to learn more. For all of those who want to get started with their own car projects, grab your FREE 85-Page Auto Body And Paint Manual and learn more about VIP.

The knowledge that I gained from my years of experience in this business is all in VIP. I share with you all of my strategies and hacks on how to get pro-finished on your own custom projects.

Question: Can I leave my car in epoxy for years in a garage while I continue to work on it? [8:53]

Yes, as long as the metal is covered. However, you need to make sure that you have a fresh coat of primer sealer on it before you paint it. Make sure it’s prepped, sanded and ready for paint and don’t just paint it over a 2-year old epoxy primer.

Question: What do you think about the De Vilbiss Spray Guns? [12:21]

I’ve never tried it. If you’re looking for a good starter or advanced spray gun, I would really recommend the Atom X Series Spray Guns.

These spray guns are awesome and you can get them on Zoolaa. They’re currently on pre-order sale and we’ll be shipping them out around the first week of July.

Question: How would you recommend cleaning a car that is sanded with bare metal and bondo? [26:42]

You can actually wash sanded bondo. It will absorb water but you have to let it dry at least overnight. If the bondo looks wet, never paint over it.

Thank you everyone for joining me today. I have a lot of VIPs here today. Please do send pictures of your projects. I would love to see them.

I have a VIP who sent me a video testimonial yesterday of his recently painted Mercedes ML430. It was awesome! I would love to hear more about these successes!

It’s Tony from LearnAutoBodyAndPaint. Join me again in the next live show. These YouTube live shows are every Thursday at 9pm Eastern.

Please Like, Share and Subscribe to my videos and I hope you enjoyed today’s show as much as I did!
