Hey, it’s Tony from LearnAutoBodyAndPaint. Hope everybody’s doing well. Today’s blog is all about Body work color blending tips.

I’m doing some body work on the Tacoma truck. Here is a quick tip that I want to share with everyone.

The “trick” to color blending is tricking the eye. That is all it is. Most of the time, you are not going to get a perfect factory color code match, even if they mix up the paint for you.

We are lucky that the damage is in this area, as far as blending goes. If the damage is in the middle area, then we would have a harder time since we will need to match the adjacent panel.

Now, I am lucky that the area is at the back side part of the truck because I don’t need to touch the back part of the truck since the only area we have to worry about blending is the corner.

Another good thing is that the top is black, so I don’t need to worry about blending it to the top and down part. There’s no adjacent panel that I need to worry blending it to. I hope you guys are getting it.

Did you know that bumpers of the brand new cars today are painted in a separate area from where the cars are put together?

If you look at the bumpers of a new car, there is a color difference. But since the car is brand new, owners don’t realize that there is a color difference between the bumper and the rest of the car.

For this work, I am using the Advantage Filler. It’s not bad since it’s on sale at just $12.97. The other brands cost $50 so screw that. LOL! I really didn’t have any problems with inexpensive fillers. I’m sure you won’t have any problems too.

I’m probably going to paint this truck tomorrow. The main thing now is to sand it out and shape it with 80-grit. Then, get it down to about 150-grit, 220-grit or 240-grit. Lastly, prime it. When I prime it, I need to make sure that I don’t go all the way at the back.
